Uh oh

An MSNBC reporter just noted that New Orleans’ upgraded levy levee system isn’t due to be complete until 2011. They’d better hurry up.

As Karl Rove would say, the Republicans sure have terrible luck with this stuff.

It’s a “levee” system, actually… and you should know that our “upgraded” system that probably won’t even be done by 2011 is protection against, at minimum, a 1 in 100 year event.

A little contrast: Amsterdam is protected against a 1 in 10,000 year weather event. Actually, no part of Holland is at a lower level of protection than 1 in 1,250. That’s the level for farmland.

Feature not a bug from what I hear.

Apparently at least on of the downtown neighborhoods not properly leveéed [lol] and subject to flooding is comprised of slums and projects with high gentrification potential. Condemnation will allow developers to move in.

This is third-hand knowledge (I personally know nothing about NOLA) so I’d wait for confirmation before passing it on any further. Alli?
