Knives Out

As soon as I started clicking through Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2006 list, I knew I shouldn’t have, because I knew exactly what would be waiting for me there at number 1, and I knew I’d have to write something angry about it, and then the g might not join our novel club.
But lo and behold, tops was Silent Shout, by The Knife. This made me feel much worse, because I have never heard of The Knife. And, you know, at some point these frustrations are sure to lead people, and hopefully never me but you can’t be sure, to give up and say, if I can’t even keep myself familiar with the best stuff, then I’m just going to be content to listen to only the things I’ve already accumulated. And one day, someone will be like, what new bands are you listening to? And I’ll be like, Radiohead? Are they still around? The Coldplay?
Getting old: a real bitch.

i’m just glad that phoenix came in at #13, because i seem to be the only person ever who likes them. but the rest - pshaw. not a clue for most of them. instead of a novel club, let’s start an old sad person club.
