Burn

I’m wary of mentioning this, given the preemptive strikes being launched (by some, you’ll note, holding opinions contrary to mine own vis-a-vis a certain steady holding band). Probably, someone will tell me to suck on it. Wouldn’t be the first time.

Unlike the rest of you jokers, I’m just now hearing Neon Bible, streaming it off NME. Now, I don’t know if it’s an 8.4, and I do know that it’s not as consistent or as magnificent as Funeral (an album which has only gotten better with time), but my first impression of Neon Bible is a good one. One or two tracks are misses (Black Wave/Bad Vibrations rubs me wrong, as does My Body is a Cage), and a few others are merely good, but I think the album as a whole meets expectations, mine at least. Ocean of Noise and No Car Go? Can’t stop listening. On a scale from antediluvian to zyphoid process, I’d give it a snackytime junction. High praise.

Too bad about that whole ticket thing. I’d have loved to see them play this live. But, as Cicero once said, “Quo usque tandem abutere, Catilina, patientia nostra? Quam diu etiam furor iste tuus nos eludet?” A to the men, brother.

i don’t dislike arcade fire. i am, however, ambivalent re: their live show & procuring tickets for said live show; I never fell in love with “funeral” the way I wanted or expected to.

But I appreciate their zaniness/pipe organs/acoustic version of “Intervention” floating around.

(PS, rumor has it the NB “deluxe edition” is totally not worth the purchase. via email: “I do kind of feel gypped for buying the special edition and it’s not the coolest damn thing ever. Also, the late-90s-alterna-rock use of typefaces? Stabbing Westward finally hit Canada.” )
