Question

Let’s say that part of Lisa’s birthday present was money to download ten (10) albums off iTunes. Let’s say that she and I are up to date enough that we have Neon Bible and the Crane Wife, but not so up to date that we have Boxer and GaGagagagagaga or whatever that Spoon album is. What albums, internets, must she be absolutely sure to download? Please to help thank you.

I’m pretty behind the times at the moment, but right now my favorite album of the year is the Wombats. I think it came out a while ago, though.

I’m liking the new Polyphonic Spree so far, but haven’t listened to it a ton. Also, you guys may feel a more appropriate level of embarrassment about that band than I do.

spoon’s new album is very good. i’ll pre-empt the g and say okkervil river. i really liked the eames era album. the rufus wainwright has some great songs but i’m not sure about the whole album…feist. peel’s latest is pretty good. i’d hypem.com these beforehand to make sure you agree before purchasing, though.

oh and it depends exactly how into dancey french techno-ish stuff you are (i know, that sounds awful) but the album from JUSTICE is actually really good. luckily the whole thing is online so you can check it out: http://www.myspace.com/etjusticepourtous

  4. ryan says:

Well, I generally don’t listen to anything BUT French techno (though I’ll occasionally make room in a playlist for something Wallonian), however my Lisa sense is telling me Justice is a no go.

[R]ight now my favorite album of the year is the Wombats

    Real bands only please, Tom.

i refuse to give you people any advice, based on the fact that both of you have openly admitted to liking music i don’t like and hating music i do like. So there!

    But yeah, what catherine said.

  6. DCeiver says:

Kings of Leon–Because of the Times
    The Shins–Wincing the Night Away
The Broken West–I Can’t Go On I’ll Go On
    Editors–An End Has A Start
    Cary Brothers–Who You Are

If you do not have last years Long Winters record, get it.

The new Wilco? Sucks. A lot. Avoid.

  7. ryan says:

Awesome. You guys are the best.

  8. Tom says:

I kinda like the new Wilco album. It’s not satisfying in a traditionally Wilcoish way, but it’s atmospheric and nice.

And the Wombats may not be real, but they’re a damn catchy fiction.

  9. ryan says:

I’ll probably call my next band Catchy Fiction.
