Edwards

In listening to the coverage of the New Hampshire primary, it strikes me as odd that no one is mentioning how the tight Obama-Clinton race is among non-Edwards voters. If we suspect that Edwards voters would tend to favor Obama, then one has to wonder how long he’s willing to stay in the race without winning any primaries. You have to feel like Obama would have run away with this had Edwards dropped out after Iowa.

Evidence for your suspicion about Edwards supporters. He seems closer to Hillary on the issues, doesn’t he?

Which one? Certainly not on the war.

But you could be right. In which case, Hillary should be the one trying to get Edwards out. Although he just said he’s going the distance.

I’ve worked it through… and after one foray I concede defeat. Issue by issue I reckon Hillary and Obama are closer to each other than either of them is to Edwards; and Edwards is closer to Obama than Hillary. So you are right!

But will it make a difference? Exciting!

    Crossed in the post!

As John Kerry discovered to his dismay, Edwards has no loyalty whatsoever to anyone but himself. So why should he drop out? Either of the two frontrunners could do something which made voters turn away in droves - if he hasn’t dropped out, he’s there to pick up the pieces. Or he could arrive at the convention with enough delegates to extract something from the eventual winner. If he drops out, he’s the new Chris Dodd.
